Ægir Sea Lime is a 100% natural source of lime. Shells from various shell banks in the North Sea are dredged, cleaned, heated and ground into granules.
Aegir Seashell Lime is a slow-release soil conditioner, rich in Calcium carbonate – 96.1%.
Due to this granular form, it dissolves slowly in the soil. As a result, the pH rises slowly, and pH fluctuations can be avoided. In this way, the microbes are protected and growth of soil life is stimulated, creating optimum conditions for plants.
The product is also rich in a wide range of trace elements.
For every tonne of lime added to the soil 440kgs of CO2 is lost. As well as this the sudden rise in pH is extremely effective at killing soil microbes. It is why Lime is used as an antiseptic bedding powder in diary cubicles. Applying lime onto tho soil, as we do in animal housing, will kill microbes.
There is CO2 released but in such low levels over a long period of time that any growing crops will be able to use the CO2 for respiration.
Used in Bokashi to stabilise pH in the organic matter while it ferments.
